FAQs

What is PVD?

PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition)  Chrome was originally designed for the aerospace industry and has since become a highly popular finish in the automotive industry.

PVD Chrome is  a powder coated process, first using a powder coating primer to protect the integrity of the part. After the powder coated process, the part enters our PVD Chamber where a mixture of metals are sputtered onto the part creating a chrome finish. The part is then coated with a high quality acrylic clear powder coat to protect the chrome finish.

Unlike traditional chrome platting, that pits and peel with normal wear and tear. PVD Chrome is a highly durable process that exceeds the life of chrome platting.

PVD Chrome plating is a 100% environmentally green process unlike tradition chrome plating. PVD wheels are 80% lighter than chrome plated wheels which leads to increased fuel economy.

What types of items can I PVD Chrome?

APVD specializes in PVD Chrome of automotive wheels and accessories. We can fit up to a 22” wheel in our PVD Chrome chamber.
Other automotive items we commonly PVD Chrome are: manifolds, air intakes, carburetors, valve covers, water pumps, super chargers to name a few. We cannot PVD Chrome parts that get above 250 degrees. That means, no exhaust tips, exhaust pipes etc.

Our chamber can fit up to 40” in height and 22” in diameter. We are set up to primarily PVD Chrome automotive wheels and accessories. Sometimes we take on other projects. If you have something in mind, give us a call. If we can’t PVD Chrome it, we will try and put you in contact with someone who can.

How does shipping work?

If your are local to the Southern California area, your best bet is to drop off your wheels without the tires, weights or valve stems. We will give you a call when your order is ready for pick up. Outside of Southern California? No problem! Send us your wheels without the tires weights or valve stems and we will ship your PVD Chrome wheels back protected in new boxes looking beautiful, shiny and new. We ship via Fedex and give you the best rate Fedex gives us. If you can find better shipping prices elsewhere, we will gladly use the carrier of your choice. Just send us a shipping label.

PVD Chrome Care?

PVD Chrome is much easier to maintain than traditional chrome plating. All you need is a little soap and water. That’s it! Clean your wheels like you would clean the paint on your car. If you choose to polish your wheels use a NON CHROME Polish such as McGuire’s PVD Chrome polish or a Novus Plastic Polish compound.

How long does it take?

We try and keep our turn around time between 7 to 10 business days from the time your parts arrive and the order is placed. If your project requires a little more TLC then we will ask for more time to complete your job. In some cases we may have to rework a wheel or part from your project to ensure we send you the best possible quality. In this scenario, we will let you know that your order is delayed.
