PVD Chrome

What is PVD Chrome?

PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) Chrome was originally designed for the aerospace industry and has since become a highly popular finish in the automotive industry. Unlike traditional chrome platting, that pits and peel with normal wear and tear. PVD Chrome is a highly durable process that exceeds the life of chrome platting.

PVD Chrome plating is a 100% environmentally green process unlike tradition chrome plating. PVD wheels are 80% lighter than chrome plated wheels which leads to increased fuel economy.

    The Powder Coating Process

American PVD Coatings uses a specialized powder coated primer to protect your wheels for maximum durability.

    PVD Chrome

After the powder-coated process, a mixture of chrome is applied in a P.V.D. (physical vapor deposition) chamber. What’s that mean?!? Basically we put a wheel into a vacuum chamber, pump out all the outside air and electrostatically sputter chrome onto the part. A very complex machine for a very beautiful look!

    Acrylic Clear Coat

Now that the primer and chrome are applied, a powder coated acrylic clear coat is sprayed over the top of the chrome for maximum protection. Mount, stand back and enjoy the look of your newly PVD Chromed wheels and accessories!

PVD Chrome VS Chrome Plating

Why PVD Chrome is the best choice for your Wheels

PVD Chrome is better for all weather types.
Chrome plating can pit peel or corrode when faced with road salts often used do de-ice roads in the winter months. PVD Chrome wheels have a powder-coated primer before the chrome and a powder coated acrylic clear coat after the chrome to fully protect the wheel and the chrome surface from being eaten away by chemicals such as magnesium chloride.

Curb rash is no problem with PVD Chrome
Let’s face it, sometimes our worst nightmares can come true. An unexpected curb can jump out of nowhere and damage the chrome on your beautiful wheels. With Chrome plating this curb rash only mean expensive repairs. Neglect leads to peeling and possible corrosion of your alloy wheels. Not good. With PVD Chrome your curb rashed wheels are protected from peeling and corrosion. Better yet, A PVD Chrome wheel can be reworked easily and inexpensively.

Outlasts your Warranty
